Adoption Info:
All of us in rescue are guessing at the breed mix of our dogs and cats and since every dog and cat is an individual regardless of breed. Adoption matchmaking at New Mexico Pets Alive focuses on people first - what is the adopter's lifestyle, work schedules, living situation, their understanding of and comfort with various levels of canine behavior and the reasons why a family wants to add a dog to their family. We then consider who our rescue pups/dogs are rather than what they are and the matchmaking begins. The goal is to set up a successful adoption match so that both our rescue pup/dog and the adoptive family are happy.
New Mexico Pets Alive currently completes adoptions via 'foster to adopt'. The process includes an adoption form, home visit and meet and greet and 1 week foster period if our adoption team thinks the match could be a great one for everyone involved. The foster period allows everyone to see if the pup/dog/cat may be the right fit for their family before we finalize the adoption. If it's not the right fit, we would prefer to learn that prior to adoption finalization so we can better help both our adoptables and potential adopters find the match that will be the right fit.
To begin the process, please complete the NMPA foster to adopt form online at: /s/VDTLL53. (You must cut and paste this link into your web browser. The Adopt a Pet platform does not provide a way for us to provide a live link within this description.) Once we receive it, our team will review your application and get back to you to set up a home visit. The visit allows us to meet everyone in the family, see where the NMPA adoptables will be living, answer any questions you may have, etc. Once the home visit is completed, our adoption team will set up your meet and greet if you have a dog or cat in mind or they will begin sending you photos of our incoming rescues and do their best to help you find an adoption match. They will also recommend other adoption agencies, groups and orgs as well.If you have additional questions, please contact one of our volunteers at mail@newmexicopetsalive.org.
